F003 Coaching for Grad School Writing

Dr. Darcy Gioia,
Associate Director of the Writing Program. Coaches advanced writing clients including scientists and technical degree students.

For any graduate student in any field of study (at any college or university) seeking guidance in developing a thesis, dissertation, or academic paper—from the selection of subjects through all research, organization, and writing steps. The client pays to obtain one-on-one, dedicated coaching time from a manager of the Writing Program in multiples of five hours. Typically, students sign up for five or ten hours at a time. More time is always available in five-hour multiples. The process is highly flexible and can include personal meetings, online exchanges, and phone calls. The goals and specific meeting times are dependent upon the availabilities of the client and coach.

"I found that Darcy was extremely helpful in guiding the overall organization of the paper that I was writing.  She was also helpful in providing tools that encourage the student to focus his/her thoughts. She made an effort to understand the scientific content of the paper.  I would definitely recommend this course to a student who is writing a dissertation or other similar form of manuscript."
