Saturday, May 3 Intensive!
Master Screenwriting Weekend Workshop
Edward Pomerantz
A riveting, mind-opening experience for any screenwriter accepted into this Saturday- intensive led by visiting master screenwriter, Edward Pomerantz. (Note: After registration, class participants must submit a film script of at least 10-20 pages to Mr. Pomerantz and provide copies for other class participants. For details contact Mr. Pomerantz: ejp20@columbia.edu. The Saturday intensive begins with a screening of Mr. Pomerantz’s film, CAUGHT, followed by a master class lecture from Noon to 1:30 p.m. The screening and lecture create a detailed tour, taking class participants inside the writer’s head, going through the thinking and writing needed to take a screenplay “where it wants and needs to go.” After the lecture and a short lunch break, a one-hour individual script review session is scheduled for each class member. The other class members will then observe and, on occasion, participate in the dynamic exchange of script development that results. .
Edward Pomerantz wrote the movie Caught, a film released by Sony Pictures Classics and directed by Robert Young that was the Centerpiece Premiere at the 1996 Sundance Film Festival. Caught also won the Audience Award at the 1996 International Film Noir Festival and was nominated for three Independent Spirit Awards. The New York Times critic, Margo Jefferson, called Caught “a masterly film (that) keeps generating tension and psychological force, placing the seamy sexual desperation of film noir right alongside the rigorous proprieties of classical tragedy.” Mr. Pomerantz’s many screenwriting accomplishments also include two Law and Order episodes, three After-School Specials, (including The Gold Bug, an Emmy winner), and over 30 commissioned screenplays and teleplays for movies and Television. He has received acclaim as a writing teacher at the Aspen Writers Workshop, the NYU Tisch School of the Arts, the Columbia University School of the Arts Film School and Writing Division, and the MFA Screenwriting Program at the City College of New York. He is also Creative Advisor and Visiting Writer at International Screenwriting Labs in Mexico, Europe, South America, and Cuba.
